40. Kanaraville Falls

Kanaraville, UT

April 8, 2014

Well, I decided spur of the moment to run to Utah to do this as my last hike of the 40.  It was well worth it.  It was a beautiful day and it was very secluded.  I loved the slot canyon part (which is where the pict is taken) I could have spent hours in here taking picts! There is also another waterfall up above this one but I didn't dare take my camera and tripod up the ladder.  I would definitely recommend this hike for all.  I will definitely take my family here. Fabulous.

39.Little Cobalt Canyon

Somewhere between Caliente and Panaca NV

April 6, 2014

How many times have I crossed over Yokem Hill and looked down the road to the West and wondered what was out there? A lot. So When my friend Barb suggested it, I was happy to go.  Can I just say...uphill uphill uphill?
It was very strange to come around a bend and to be able to see  the L. I will admit that I am directionally challenged but still! That was not where I was expecting to see it. LOL. And it was also bizarre to be able to see the cove just outside of Caliente AND Panaca at the same time.
Barb pointed out lots of plants, flowers and rocks. I definately got an education.
One of my favorite part was hiking down through the wash back towards the cars. I always enjoy a good wash. LOL. The other part was being with good friends.  It was good just to chill and visit with some great ladies!

38. Pioneer Hills Trail

St. George, UT

Mar. 29, 2014

This hike was...well, a little lacking is spectacularness. Maybe we didn't follow the right path and got off onto a NOT path. It didn't really seem to be leading anywhere and there wasn't much to look at. It was a beautiful evening however and great to be with my kids and husband.  There were quite a few wildflower which were pretty and several nice cacti. What I was REALLY hoping to see though, was a desert tortoise! UNFORTUNATELY, LOL, we were not graced by his presence this time. However, we did find a shell of a deceased tortoise. AT LEAST, we got to see that!!

37. Eagles nest and The Hourglass

Backcountry of Cathedral Gorge State Park, Panaca, NV

March 23, 2014

Of all the times I've hiked in Cathedral...I have never been to these places.  Apparently, I've not been following the correct trail because I've always just come back through the wash. I learned today that there is a trail that I've missed all these years. LOL.  Annnyway, my friend Kathi told me about this eagles nest. It was BIG! and thankfully vacant...well, I guess it would have been cool to see an eagle in it but I certainly wouldn't have been able to get too close. The bottom pict is what Kathi calls the hourglass because most of the time there is a steady trickle of sand falling from above. Though sadly, not today. The first pict is a shot from a tall sandy mountain Tonya and I decided to climb to figure out where in the heck we were. LOL. Unfortunately, there was no way to get down from here except the way we came but DANG! it was a beautiful site and beautiful lighting!

36. Eagle Point Trail

Millers Point, Cathedral State Park, Panaca, NV

Mar. 22, 2014

Alexa and I did this little hike near Millers Point. It was a fun little hike and it was very pretty being above the Cathedral formations looking down.

35. Beaver Dam Wash Trail

Beaver Dam State Park, Lincoln Co, NV

March 15, 2014

This hike was probably my least favorite at this park. My hiking buddies and I had a hard time finding and staying on the trail.  We crossed the river several times trying to locate a path. Yeah, didn't really happen until we were on our way back down the river. We finally found some yellow markers in the trees and a sort of road. We did come across a cute little waterfall. Keep in mind that winter isn't the most picturesque time for waterfall picts.
I thought these beaver dams were quite fascinating! Loved it. If beaver weren't nocturnal, we totally could have seen them swimming in the river.

34. Waterfall Trail

Beaver Dam State Park, Lincoln Co., NV

March 15, 2014

This was by far my favorite hike at BDSP.  It was an easy, well marked, one mile hike to the main falls area.  I didn't get a decent picture of it because it was half in sun and half in shade. Major bummer!!
The waterfall is running quite small right now so it looks like it is two waterfalls.  Another cool thing about this hike is that there is a natural hot spring up above the waterfall. It is a small stream that comes up through a rock and not 15 yards away is an ice cold stream from the canyon runoff. This is also the location that I discovered that I had ticks on my body! Yuck!! 5 in all, thank you very much!
